Food Day is a nationwide celebration of and movement toward more healthy, affordable, and sustainable food culminating in a day of action on October 24 every year. Created by the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest and driven by a diverse coalition of food movement leaders and citizens, Food Day aims to bring us closer to a food system with “real food” that is produced with care for the environment, animals, and the women and men who grow, harvest, and serve it. Check the food day website for other activities occurring during the day.
Lento is the perfect place for our food day event, where we can recognize and celebrate Lento's strong commitment to sourcing its food from local farmers and local markets. All food at Lento is prepared in-house from fresh ingredients, including the pastas and fermented relishes. Chef Art Rogers has selected a menu that highlights food from the area at this time of year, and is offering the tasting menu at a very attractive price.
In addition to celebrating Lento, we will also celebrate the growing food movement with some special Food Day interludes. We will be watching a premiere screening of a the first of new video series produced by Food Mythbusters. The video addresses the first myth that industrial agriculture is necessary to feed the world. Between another course we'll have a conversation with Art Rogers and on how he sources locally, and we'll also view new video on the dangers of soda - TheRealBears.
